Jeff is an experienced trial attorney who has practiced in the private and public sectors for a combined 30 years. He is also a certified mediator.
Jeff has extensive experience in state and federal courts – at both the trial and appellate levels. He has worked on a broad range of cases – personal injury, product liability, medical negligence, employment, environmental, corporate governance, oil and gas, intellectual property, constitutional law, construction, business, anti-trust, and tobacco – and he has represented both plaintiffs and defendants.
Jeff has both the practical experience and the judgment to effectively and successfully engage the legal system on behalf of his clients. Jeff’s breath of experience makes him well-qualified to handle the most difficult and complex cases. In addition, his unique perspective – having represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of cases – makes him an excellent option for parties seeking assistance with dispute resolution.
Jeff previously served in the Iowa Department of Justice as Solicitor General for the State of Iowa. In this capacity, he provided legal counsel to a variety of public sector clients on a wide range of legal issues, supervised the State’s civil litigation, and often acted as lead trial or appellate counsel on important matters.
Prior to his work for the State of Iowa, Jeff developed his trial skills trying occupational injury and environmental cases in Texas, Mississippi, Ohio and West Virginia. He was also part of the team of lawyers who represented the State of Texas in its ground-breaking case against the tobacco industry.
A native Iowan, Jeff’s journey started in Cedar Rapids, where after high school he worked nights at Collins Radio and the old Wilson Foods packing house to earn money for college. After college, and summer jobs as a painter and doing farm work, he took a job with a Houston-based company that provided equipment and services to the oil and gas industry. It was in Houston, years later, that Jeff decided to return to school to become a lawyer.
Jeff graduated with honors from the University of Houston Law Center and served as editor-in-chief of the Houston Law Review. He also worked as a law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit before he entered private practice.
Jeff returned to Iowa in 2007.
Jeff is honored to have been offered to opportunity to join the exceptional team of lawyers at the Parrish Law Firm.
