Mitchell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and his law degree from Drake University. While at Drake, Mitchell was a finalist in the school’s first-year oral arguments competition and served as a Note Editor for the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law. His student note was selected for publication in the journal.
Mitchell gained extensive practical experience through Drake Law School’s Criminal Law Clinic and Advanced Criminal Law Clinic, where he represented clients in criminal matters and developed an early interest in criminal defense and trial advocacy. In recognition of his clinical work, Mitchell was awarded the Outstanding Clinical Student Award by the Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA) in 2026.
